Another good news for SBI customers is that the bank has also lifted the charge for SMS. SBI has been levying an annual charge on bank transaction information sent to customers via SMS.
State Bank of India (SBI) will no longer deduct fines even if there is no minimum balance in the savings account. This means that even if the customer does not maintain the latest balance in the SBI account, the money does not have to be counted.
Another good news for SBIcustomers is that the bank has also lifted the charge for SMS.SBI has been levying an annual charge on bank transaction information sent to customers via SMS. This time the charge will not be taken from the customers State Bank has more than 44 crore savings accounts.
However, SBI has also announced special benefits for customers who maintain a higher balance in SBI's savings account. The number of free ATM transactions of the concerned customers will be increased.
Customers who maintain a balance of Rs 1 lakh or more in their savings account will get all ATM transactions unlimited free every month.
In March this year, the SBI announced that it would lift the penalty for maintaining a minimum balance. Earlier, SBI customers had to deposit a minimum balance of Rs 3,000 in metro cities, Rs 2,000 in semi-urban areas and Rs 1,000 in rural areas.
Failure to maintain the minimum balance would result in a fine of Rs 5 to Rs 15 plus tax. SBI is currently offering 2.7 per cent interest on savings accounts.
