So for eggs, West Bengal has to depend on Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Rising diesel prices have increased transportation costs. Therefore, the traders of the Sealdah egg strip do not see any possibility of reducing the price of eggs in the coming days.
Madan Mohan Maiti, head of the Poultry Traders' Association, said the current wholesale price above Rs 5 in India is good for poultry farming.
Kajal Dutt, general secretary of The Calcutta Merchant Association, said dividends to retailers were declining. Kajalbabu does not see any hope of reducing the price of eggs before Pujo.
