Therefore, National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January to raise awareness to promote the rights, education, health, and nutrition of the girl child across the country. The day was initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, providing assistance and opportunities for girls in India.
National Girl Child Day 2022: History and Significance
The day was first created in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to raise awareness about the importance of the girl child. An initiative to end gender-based discrimination in society and bring about behavioral change towards girls in this male-favorite world. The government has made several schemes for the development of the girl child, such as Save the Girl Child, Bachao Bati, Beti Padhao, and many more.
The day plays an important role as it is based on the empowerment of girls as they are killed, abortions are done due to sexual abuse, gender inequality is faced, and many things are provided to boys in society. Opportunities are lacking. Therefore, on this day, various ministries and many organizations organize programs to empower girls for their betterment. The central and state governments also issue campaigns and policies for the development of the girl child across the country.
National Girl Child Day 2022: Theme
Every year the theme is different. In the year 2021, the theme of National Girl Child Day was 'Digital Generation, Our Generation'. The government has not announced any theme for Girl Child Day this year.
National Girl Child Day 2022: Celebrations
On this day, the Ministry of Culture has organized an event called 'Umang Rangoli Utsav' as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The participants have to decorate the Rangoli at 50 special places across India. One kilometer-long Rangoli will be made on the streets and squares in the name of women freedom fighters of the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually connect and felicitate the winners of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) in the presence of Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani and Minister of State Munjpara Mahendrabhai.
