According to local sources, Riya's ancestors used to live in Tunturi village of Baghmundi police station in Purulia many years ago. 

Riya's grandfather Shirish Chakraborty also used to live in a village house. Later he moved to Dhanbad in Jharkhand for work. Riya's father and uncle were born in Dhanbad.
